The Free Fire OB55 update is the biggest patch of late 2026. It brought four brand-new weapons, a reworked Kenta, two new grenades in Clash Squad, faster Battle Royale airdrops, a new device system and the Prime Diamonds jar, plus the Naruto Shippuden Chapter 1 collaboration. This guide explains what changed, when it went live, and what you should actually do differently in your matches.
Quick answer: Garena published the OB55 patch notes on 10 September 2026 and the update rolled out on 16 September 2026. The new M7 (AR), Skorp (SMG), RPK (LMG) and Hawk (sniper) became available from 1 October 2026. OB56 has not been announced yet; based on Garena’s usual 11 to 13 week cycle, most players expect it around mid-December 2026.
Free Fire OB55 Release Date
Garena released the full OB55 patch notes on 10 September 2026, and the update itself went live in the Google Play Store and App Store on 16 September 2026 after the usual maintenance window. If your game still shows an older version, update it from the store, because OB55 lobbies will not let an old client join a match.
The new weapons were not unlocked on day one. They arrived two weeks later, on 1 October 2026, which is why many players felt the patch “changed” halfway through the season. If you took a break in September, read our full breakdown of the M7, Skorp, RPK and Hawk first, then come back here for the rest of the patch.
OB55 New Weapons: M7, Skorp, RPK and Hawk
Four weapons in one patch is unusual for Free Fire, and each one targets a different fight distance:
- M7 (Assault Rifle): a controllable mid-range AR with high accuracy. It is strongest between 30 and 80 metres and rewards players who tap-fire instead of spraying.
- Skorp (SMG): a very fast-firing close-range SMG with a quick reload. It shines inside buildings and in Clash Squad, but the damage drop-off past 25 metres is steep.
- RPK (LMG): a heavy LMG with a big magazine, built for breaking Gloo Walls and holding a position. It is slow to move with, so pair it with a light secondary.
- Hawk (Sniper): a long-range sniper with a quicker shot cycle than the AWM. It has become the most popular pick for players who want sniper damage without waiting for an airdrop.
In practice, the M7 and Hawk have changed the ranked meta the most. Our updated best guns in Free Fire guide now rates every weapon against the OB55 additions.
Kenta Character Rework
Kenta’s ability was reworked in OB55 so that his frontal shield is more useful in actual fights rather than only during revives. The shield now scales with his level, lasts longer, and can be used while moving slowly, which makes him a much better pick in Clash Squad pushes. If you dropped Kenta months ago, try him again in a few casual matches before judging him in ranked.
Clash Squad Changes: Flame and Sonar Grenades
Two new throwables arrived in Clash Squad with OB55:
- Flame Grenade: leaves a burning area on the ground for a few seconds. It is best used to block a doorway or stop a rush through a narrow lane, not as a direct-damage grenade.
- Sonar Grenade: briefly reveals enemies hiding behind cover inside its radius. Throw it before your squad commits to a push so you are not walking into a camped corner.
Both grenades are bought from the Clash Squad store, so budget your early rounds. A Sonar Grenade in round one is often a better buy than a vest upgrade when you are attacking.
Battle Royale Changes: Faster Airdrops and the Device System
Battle Royale airdrops now land much earlier, with the first drop arriving at roughly 160 seconds into the match instead of several minutes in. This means early-game fights around airdrops are back, and landing near the centre of the map is more rewarding than it was in OB54.
OB55 also introduced active and passive devices. Passive devices give a small permanent effect for the match once picked up, while active devices have a cooldown and must be triggered manually, similar to a character skill. You can carry one of each, so decide early whether your loadout needs more information (scanners) or more survival (shields and healing boosts).
Prime Diamonds and the Diamond Jar
Prime Diamonds are a new reward currency that builds up in a “diamond jar” as you complete certain events and purchases. They are not the same as normal diamonds and cannot be bought directly. We explain exactly how the jar fills, what it can be spent on and the common mistakes in our Prime Diamonds guide. If you are topping up normally, our Pakistan diamond top-up guide covers the safe methods.
Naruto Shippuden Chapter 1 Collaboration
The OB55 season launched alongside the Naruto Shippuden collaboration, with Chapter 1 running from 16 September to 15 October 2026. It included the Nine Tails takeover mode, Sharingan missions and the free Hinata reward track. Even though Chapter 1 has ended, the character bundles and the Nine Tails mode are expected to return in later chapters. Catch up with our Naruto Shippuden collaboration guide, learn how to control Nine Tails, and see which Hinata rewards were available.
OB55 vs OB54: What Actually Changed
If you played through OB54, the biggest differences you will feel are the weapon pool (four new guns against OB54’s one), the faster airdrop timer, the device slots in Battle Royale, and the two new Clash Squad grenades. OB54 focused on system and UI changes; OB55 is mostly a gameplay patch, which is why the ranked meta shifted so quickly in October.
How to Adjust Your Settings After OB55
New weapons mean new recoil patterns, so your old sensitivity may feel off, especially with the M7 and Skorp. Use our free Free Fire sensitivity generator to get a starting point for your device, then fine-tune in training grounds. Players in Pakistan who noticed more lag after the update should also check our low ping settings guide, as the OB55 patch increased the game size and some older devices need a cache clear.
When Is the Free Fire OB56 Update?
Garena has not announced OB56 yet. Free Fire updates have arrived every 11 to 13 weeks over the past two years, which puts the likely OB56 window around mid-December 2026. Expect the Advance Server to open two to three weeks before release and the official patch notes a few days before the update. We will update this page as soon as Garena confirms a date, so bookmark it rather than trusting “leaked” dates on social media.
